Join us for a beautiful walk around the historic park. The festival will feature dance\, visual arts\, music\, and technology through the form of interdisciplinary art pieces stationed throughout the park. Each unique piece is an exploration of climate change\, nature\, humanity\, and health. Audience members will have the opportunity to stroll through the park and engage with each work. \nThis year\, Heidi Duckler Dance is excited to be joined by local choreographers and artists Bib Bauer\, Elena Brocade\, Deborah Brockus\, Taylor Donofrio\, Darrel ‘Friidom’ Dunn\, Lydia Janbay\, Nat Wilson\, Sunrise Transparence (Anj Vancura)\, and Beartriz Vasquez. HDD’s Artist in Residence\, Ching Ching Wong will present work activating our yellow DanceMobile with dance and musical collaborators Rebecca Lee\, Alejandro Perez\, Gloria Anjona\, and Javier Arjona. Visual artist Elkpen (Christian Kasperkovitz)\, a Los Angeles-based visual artist who creates visual stories about neighborhoods\, natural history\, science\, and the next economy will present her work in partnership with Hollywood Orchard\, a community orchard that is a teaching model for sustainability. \nCome early and join the Audubon Society on a nature walk from 1:30 pm – 2:15 pm and enjoy a picnic in the park from 2:15 pm until the performances start at 3 pm. This add-on is available when you reserve your tickets and is a perfect introduction to the native flora and fauna\, and the history of the park. \nStop the Gondola will have an informational booth at Ebb & Flow on Saturday\, June 25th only! They’re an organization seeking to stop a project planning to build an aerial gondola between Union Station and Dodger Stadium. If approved\, the project will construct huge towers on public land which would affect several neighborhoods\, including Chinatown. Angelenos want their tax dollars to prioritize safe and affordable public transportation\, more affordable housing\, and solutions to the homeless crisis instead. \nJoin local choreographers\, artists\, and musicians in this family-friendly community exploration of climate change and its impact on the environment. You do not want to miss this! \n \nThis project was supported by New Music USA’s New Music Organizational Development Fund\, \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_spacing=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_raw_html]JTNDZGl2JTIwaWQlM0QlMjJldmVudGJyaXRlLXdpZGdldC1jb250YWluZXItMzUwNDcwOTA2OTE3JTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGZGl2JTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_raw_js]JTNDc2NyaXB0JTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZ3d3cuZXZlbnRicml0ZS5jb20lMkZzdGF0aWMlMkZ3aWRnZXRzJTJGZWJfd2lkZ2V0cy5qcyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRnNjcmlwdCUzRSUwQSUwQSUzQ3NjcmlwdCUyMHR5cGUlM0QlMjJ0ZXh0JTJGamF2YXNjcmlwdCUyMiUzRSUwQSUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMHZhciUyMGV4YW1wbGVDYWxsYmFjayUyMCUzRCUyMGZ1bmN0aW9uJTI4JTI5JTIwJTdCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwY29uc29sZS5sb2clMjglMjdPcmRlciUyMGNvbXBsZXRlJTIxJTI3JTI5JTNCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTdEJTNCJTBBJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwd2luZG93LkVCV2lkZ2V0cy5jcmVhdGVXaWRnZXQlMjglN0IlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMkYlMkYlMjBSZXF1aXJlZCUwQSUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMHdpZGdldFR5cGUlM0ElMjAlMjdjaGVja291dCUyNyUyQyUwQSUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMGV2ZW50SWQlM0ElMjAlMjczNTA0NzA5MDY5MTclMjclMkMlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjBpZnJhbWVDb250YWluZXJJZCUzQSUyMCUyN2V2ZW50YnJpdGUtd2lkZ2V0LWNvbnRhaW5lci0zNTA0NzA5MDY5MTclMjclMkMlMEElMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlMkYlMkYlMjBPcHRpb25hbCUwQSUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMCUyMGlmcmFtZUNvbnRhaW5lckhlaWdodCUzQSUyMDQyNSUyQyUyMCUyMCUyRiUyRiUyMFdpZGdldCUyMGhlaWdodCUyMGluJTIwcGl4ZWxzLiUyMERlZmF1bHRzJTIwdG8lMjBhJTIwbWluaW11bSUyMG9mJTIwNDI1cHglMjBpZiUyMG5vdCUyMHByb3ZpZGVkJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwb25PcmRlckNvbXBsZXRlJTNBJTIwZXhhbXBsZUNhbGxiYWNrJTIwJTIwJTJGJTJGJTIwTWV0aG9kJTIwY2FsbGVkJTIwd2hlbiUyMGFuJTIwb3JkZXIlMjBoYXMlMjBzdWNjZXNzZnVsbHklMjBjb21wbGV0ZWQlMEElMjAlMjAlMjAlMjAlN0QlMjklM0IlMEElM0MlMkZzY3JpcHQlM0U=[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Dancer and HDD Artist in Residence\, Ching Ching Wong\, will be creating a dance score in response to both artworks alongside dancer Jobel Medina with musicians Dwight Trible\, Pablo Calogero\, and Roberto Miranda. \nEvent Timeline:\n6 PM – Doors open\n7 PM – Indoor Performance\n7:40 PM – Outdoor Performance\n8:15 PM – Salon Discussion \nHeidi Duckler Dance’s Stories from Storage will feature artists: \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_spacing=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/3″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]CHING CHING WONG – HDD’s inaugural artist in residence\, Ching Ching Wong\, is both performer and creative director for this evening’s exploration of art and discussion. The recognition or lack thereof of our human behavior and the situations resulting from our unconscious actions is the premise of this tale. \nPart 1 includes An Evil Stream\, the first episode where the adventure begins for our protagonist siblings as they innocently wander into the enchanted woods. Episode Two will follow as well as a trailer for Part 2. \nFilming for CounterIntelligence took place in and around the Russian-Jewish enclave of West Hollywood. It was written and directed by Heidi Duckler and filmed and edited by Nicolas Savignano. It stars dance artists Andrea Burr\, Rebekah Denegal\, Friidom (Darrel Dunn)\, Raymond Ejiofor\, William Ylvisaker\, and Ching Ching Wong. \n— \nSunday\, May 1 – PART 1\nStreaming live on Youtube\, Facebook & Twitch \n— \nThis project is supported in part by an arts grant from the City of West Hollywood. \n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_spacing=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_raw_html]JTNDZGl2JTIwaWQlM0QlMjJldmVudGJyaXRlLXdpZGdldC1jb250YWluZXItMjU5NjI2MTI3NzM3JTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGZGl2JTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:The Chandelier
DESCRIPTION:The Chandelier\, originally slated to be premiered at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts spring 2020\, but postponed due to the pandemic\, is finally premiering August 12 – 15! \nDuring quarantine\, HDD explored the possibilities for the work through a Zoom performance titled Illuminating the Chandelier and we are excited to expand on what was created then and utilize the space at The Wallis’ in the non-traditional\, site-specific way HDD always does\, The Chandelier is based on the novel of the same title by Brazilian author Clarice Lispector\, which was hailed by The New York Times for its “undeniable quantity of genius (and) heart-stopping payoff.” The tragic coming-of-age story told from a young girl’s perspective was recently translated into English from Portuguese. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicket here!\n\n\n\n \n \nThe Chandelier was supported by New Music USA’s New Music Organizational Development Fund

A brand new virtual workshop that culminates in the creation of your own (virtual) site-specific dance film! \nIn MAP Lab\, you will have the opportunity to create your own tool kit for designing and composing choreography in the virtual realm. Throughout the weekend\, participants will take classes with renowned architects\, dancers\, and videographers and explore the ways we define space. With different topologies and mapping strategies\, participants will investigate the intersectionality of body and space throughout the weekend. In between master classes\, participants will have the opportunity to immediately apply what they’ve learned through the creation of their film. During these individual workshop sessions\, participants can sign up for one on one consultations with Heidi Duckler to discuss their individual projects. \nWe choose to view the virtual space as an opportunity to explore and challenge previous notions of dance and space. We are especially curious about the relationship between dance and architecture. Both creative disciplines ask us: how do we characterize space? \nJoin us for the chance to create your own spatial map for movement\, architecture\, and production in the virtual space! \nNo previous experience or equipment needed. A virtual tool kit will be provided. \nFor information about scholarships or questions\, please email sophie@heididuckler.org \n—— \nSchedule\n\nFriday\, June 4\n\n\n10am – 12pm ~ Adrian Hoffman\n12 – 1 PM ~ 20 min. individual consultations with Heidi Duckler upon request\n1pm – 3pm ~ Kevin Daly\n3pm – 5pm ~ Nicolas Savignano\n\n\n\nSaturday\, June 5\n\n\n10am – 12pm ~ Victor Jones\n12 – 1 PM ~ 20 min. individual consultations with Heidi Duckler upon request\n1pm – 3pm ~ ALL TEACHING ARTISTS\n\n\n\nSunday\, June 6\n\n\n5pm – 6pm ~ Final showing\n\n\n—— \nABOUT THE TEACHING ARTISTS \nKevin Daly \nKevin Daly\, FAIA\, is the founder of Kevin Daly Architects. For over twenty years he has pursued an architecture that delves into the paradoxes of the urban condition and the consequences of intervention. Projects by Kevin Daly express his belief in an architecture that is performative on every level: environmentally\, structurally\, economically\, and aesthetically. Bolstered by abundant research\, he has demonstrated the benefits of advanced\, unconventional building technology in works that are consistently recognized in publications and awards\, and range from public schools\, custom residences\, and university buildings to affordable housing. \nHe is on the design faculty at UCLA and has served on juries or lectured at institutions internationally\, including Stanford University\, Cornell University\, Rice University\, SCI arc\, the Architectural League of New York\, the University of Texas at Austin\, and RISD. \n—– \nHow do architects characterize space? With different topologies and mapping strategies\, participants will investigate the intersectionality of body and space. Architectural backgrounds and a tool kit will be provided to participants so that they can design and compose choreography in the virtual realm. Examples of sample spaces\, interim spaces\, improvisational spaces\, iconic spaces will be used to evoke and inspire personal projects. \n \n—– \nAdrian Hoffman \nAdrian (he/they)\, was born and raised in Cambridge\, MA\, where they began their training as a martial artist at Davis Sq. Martial Arts. After receiving their Black Belt\, they transitioned to dance in high school at the Cambridge School of Weston. They went on to graduate from The Ailey School/Fordham University with a BFA in Dance and double minor in Philosophy/Math while also pioneering a study abroad exchange with Israel’s Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company. \nAdrian is the artistic Director and founder of Cantankerous Creatures\, a Boston based dance project seeking to strengthen the dance community with kindness and active audience engagement. They currently live in Los Angeles working as a dancer and choreographer. Previously they have been a company member of Whim W’Him\, a guest dancer with Alvin Ailey and BODYTRAFFIC\, danced in music videos for Katy Perry and Justin Beiber among others\, freelanced on stage and film and appeared as a featured dancer in Greta Gerwig’s recent remake of Little Women. \n \n—– \nVictor Jones \nVictor Jones is a cultural activist\, designer\, and writer. Jones’s creative and intellectual work stands at the intersections of architecture\, art\, infrastructure\, landscape\, and the urban experience. A central theme of his scholarship\, design research\, and teaching is how infrastructure\, at various scales\, operates as a social\, political\, and spatial instrument. \nJones is a design principal of Fièvre Jones\, Inc. Projects include Bywater Houses (2015)\, Watts House Project Platform (2011)\, and a skate park for City Park in New Orleans (2009). In addition\, Jones has written articles and books such as “New Orleans – Ecological Urbanism” in Shaping the City: Studies in History\, Theory\, and Urban Design (Routledge\, 2013); (IN)FORMAL L.A.: The Space of Politics (eVolo Press\, 2014); BASENTO Un Ponte (Euno Edizioni\, 2015); and Un pont à part | A Distant Bridge (MétisPresses\, 2016). \nJones has taught design studios and seminars at Tulane University\, the University of California Los Angeles\, and the University of Southern California. He lives and works in Los Angeles with his partner Alain Fièvre. \n \n—– \nNicolas Savignano \nNicolas Savignano is an Argentinian filmmaker who has worked with LA’s most renowned choreographers as a director\, cinematographer\, and editor. Originally from Buenos Aires\, he moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Film Directing at Calarts\, where he currently works as the Institute Videographer. Nicolas will share valuable insights on how to create a movement film from start to finish. \n—– \nThe filmmaking workshop does not require access to special camera or lighting equipment and is meant to explore concepts that can be applied with any type of filming device. \nCamera framing: Camera angles\, shot sizes\, types of compositions. How do they relate to the space\, the story\, and the characters. \nCamera movements: How to do them and what they convey. \nImage editing: How to cut for movement and for narrative. \nSound editing: How to build narrative through sound. How to disguise or emphasize image cuts through sound. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_raw_html]JTNDZGl2JTIwaWQlM0QlMjJldmVudGJyaXRlLXdpZGdldC1jb250YWluZXItMTQyMTMzNDA1ODQzJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGZGl2JTNFJTBB[/vc_raw_html][vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The workshop series was created through collaboration and reciprocal sharing between HDD and distinguished teaching artists and women from the Los Angeles Community. The workshops explored identity through different art forms. Participants created self-portraits with costume designer Snezana Petrovic\, explored their unique experiences through poetry and spoken word with poet Ajanae Dawkins\, and delved into the many nuances of identity through movement with dancer Anthea Young. \nWeekly workshops in dance\, spoken word\, and visual art come together in REMNANTS. SUMMARY:Dance Camera West
DESCRIPTION:The Broad Stage is creating a unique DRIVE-IN experience as the closing night of the month-long Dance Camera West film festival screening the finalists and award-winning (tba) films from 2021. Dance films ranging from group dances in remote landscapes\, urban spaces and dance studios around the world\, to introspective solos that invite us to share space with dancers sheltering at home. Experience the energy\, vitality and passion of dance in the context of the challenging times we are living in. \nIn November 2019 Heidi Duckler Dance performed as part of the international programming in Concepción\, Chile. The company arrived at a time of mass protests fueled by the increased cost of living and prevalent inequality in Chile. Despite the rising fear of violence and feelings of trauma coming back from the days of the dictatorship\, the festivals moved forward with their programming. Duckler\, impacted by the protests\, decided to create a film titled\, ESCAPE\, that reveals the correlation between the Chilean and American experiences. The team traveled and filmed in Valdivia\, Concepción\, and Los Ángeles\, Chile\, listening to the stories of local residents\, using dance as a tool of expression and resistance. Now as we confront police brutality in America and face a global crisis\, the themes of fear\, increasing inequality\, and unstable leadership feel more relevant than ever and are explored through this cinematic experience.
