This summer, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will premiere Night Market—a piece based on the biographies of workers at Downtown Los Angeles’s Central Wholesale Market. Over the past couple of months, we’ve spent hours at the Market interviewing vendors, market staff, and even the owner! Now, we’re in the process of creating an evening production dedicated to the personal stories those individuals shared with us.

Of course, we’ll create dance pieces for the production, but we want the evening to be full of art of all disciplines. That’s why we’re looking for artists interested in collaborating with us! If you’re an artist (of any medium) we want to hear from you.

We’ll select six artists to join us on this endeavor. The chosen artists will be provided with one of the interviews we filmed, and will use that as source material for their work. The interview does not need to be part of the final product, it simply needs to provide the inspiration. Each selected artist will be provided a stipend for their work.

If you’re interested, please read this Request for Artists, and submit your application materials to us soon. Also, if you’re not an artist but you know someone who is, please distribute this far and wide. We’d love to hear from as many artists as possible. We’re always looking for new/future collaborators.
