VORTEX premiered on Friday, January 16 in the Rotunda of Los Angeles City Hall as the culminating live performance of A Living Legacy. Activating the civic architecture through movement, sound, and collective presence, the work transformed the historic space into a resonant chamber of breath, memory, and momentum.

The evening opened with a conversation led by acclaimed author Terry Wolverton, reflecting on art, place, and cultural inheritance. Following the performance, a post-show artist dialogue moderated by Joe Schenck invited audiences into deeper reflection on process, collaboration, and thematic inquiry.

Throughout the work, themes of loss, resilience, motherhood, and duality unfolded through live and ambient sound, breath, song, and echo. Movement spiraled outward and upward, heightening sensory awareness and shifting the audience’s perception of scale and proximity. Intimate gestures expanded into sweeping ensemble passages, accumulating energy before softening into stillness.

As the vortex released, what remained was a shared, fleeting atmosphere, where movement, memory, and place converged within the heart of the city.
