By Lorraine Morland, HDD 41st Anniversary Celebration Volunteer

Not long ago, I walked into the Los Angeles Law Library seeking legal help. I was going through a difficult time, fighting a legal battle of my own, and I needed guidance. The people there helped me so wonderfully, and I will always be grateful.

Never did I imagine that one day I would return to this same building, not as someone seeking help, but as a volunteer helping make a special evening possible.

The Heidi Duckler Dance Company transformed the library into a beautiful space filled with art, dance, music, and extraordinary people. The dancers moved throughout the building, bringing life and beauty into spaces where people usually sit quietly studying law and working through their legal challenges. It was absolutely amazing to watch!

And yes, it brought tears to my eyes.

I remembered what it felt like to walk through those doors needing help. And now, I stood in that very same building, volunteering alongside Ms. Heidi and her hardworking staff, helping prepare for the guests who came to celebrate this special occasion.

There was something deeply moving about being able to give back to a place that had once given me so much.

Life has a way of bringing us full circle. Sometimes, we enter a place during one of the most difficult chapters of our lives, never knowing that one day we might return with a completely different purpose.

I left feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. My heart was touched by the creativity, generosity, dedication, and hard work that went into making this event such a success.

To Ms. Heidi, the Heidi Duckler Dance Company, the entire staff, and everyone who made this evening possible, thank you for allowing me to be part of something so beautiful.

Sometimes, the places where we once searched for help become the very places where we discover the joy of giving back.

My heart is full.

With gratitude and love,

Lorraine Morland
