Heidi Duckler Dance (HDD) presents Vortex, a special site-specific live performance at the Rotunda of Los Angeles City Hall on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Choreographed by HDD Artistic Director Raymond Ejiofor and performed by HDD dancers with live vocals and cello, Vortex brings A Living Legacy to life by activating the iconic City Hall rotunda through movement that reflects more than four decades of groundbreaking site-specific work in Los Angeles. The Downtown Los Angeles City Hall Rotunda features soaring ceilings and a luminous atmosphere that feels alive with activity. As the symbolic heart of City Hall, it serves as an architectural crossroads where past and present converge at the center of Los Angeles
Vortex is a dynamic, site-responsive dance work that invites audiences into a spiraling exploration of human connection, energy, and momentum. Through fluid choreography and immersive sound, performers navigate the tension between chaos and harmony, illuminating the interplay between individual expression and collective movement.
This live performance serves as the culminating event of A Living Legacy, a landmark exhibition celebrating Heidi Duckler Dance’s deep connection to the city’s architecture, communities, and evolving cultural landscape. Drawing from the company’s extensive archives, the work honors HDD’s artistic journey while pointing boldly toward its future.
