Before performances begin, we invite you to participate in a fun, community art installation project with HDD Education Director, Belize!

HDD Education Community Art Installation
Join HDD Education Director Belize Wilheim, for upcycled art making! Inspired by Ashton Phillips and Dylan Ricard’s installation “Nest,” we invite you to explore “play, care, and duty” within this community installation. Using discarded materials and your imagination, you can create new life. Will you contribute to building the nest or take shelter as a creature of the nest yourself?

This program is supported, in part, by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

A message from our Community Partner

The South LA Eco-Lab is transforming South Los Angeles into a healthy, thriving neighborhood — one with lush green spaces, clean air, renewable energy infrastructure, and dynamic mobility options for pedestrians, bikers, and public transit.

This historic revitalization project is funded by a $35 million grant from the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC)’s Transformative Climate Communities Program (TCC).  The South LA Eco Lab received the highest score of all submitted TCC proposals and the highest grant amount awarded. The project leverages an additional $24 million in funding to implement economic development through climate action in a 3.9-mile area in the heart of South Los Angeles. The South LA Eco-Lab builds off the work from the South LA Climate Commons, funded under the Round 2 Transformative Climate Communities Planning Grant. To learn more about the 11 sustainability projects being implemented in South LA, visit our website.

SLATE-Z, a federally designated Promise Zone, is proud to serve as the strategic advisor for the South LA Eco-Lab and formed part of the lead applicant team with Community Partners and the City of Los Angeles. SLATE-Z is a collective impact effort focusing on issues of environmental sustainability and economic revitalization in South Los Angeles, working with around 100 cross-sector partners.
