October 12, 2019 – Los Angeles Theatre, Los Angeles, CA. Our 34th annual gala Agua Viva explored the Los Angeles Theatre in its full splendor. HDD dancers and musicians took guests on a journey through the lower level of the theater. Guests watched a performance in the ballroom together and then separated into groups to watch two performances in the restrooms. Two different films were screened in the theater. First, Alice in the Nitehawk, an Oregon Dance Film Commission featuring the Northwest leg of the company’s dancers, and second, Where We’re Going, a collaboration with Safety Third Productions currently being projected in the US Bank Tower lobby.

After a wonderful dinner by Mama’s Tamales, the award ceremony left guests inspired; it was an honor to be surrounded by so many influential members of the Los Angeles community. Wendy Garen received the Community Philanthropy Award, and Rachel Kushner received the Artistic Vision Award. Concluding the award ceremony, Dr. Jasmine Eugenio and Sylvia Drew Ivie shared their experiences being in the audience for Stay Awake and the impact our MoveWell@MLK residency has had on the MLK Jr. Community Hospital Medical Campus.

Our students from St. Mary’s Academy wrapped up the night’s performances and gave guests a glimpse into our educational programs. Dessert and a fun photobooth with photographer Sean Deckert closed out the night.
