In October 2022 Heidi Duckler Dance celebrated its 37th Anniversary Celebration, Body of the People. It was a night of performance and music at the Founder’s Church of Religious Science in Los Angeles, CA.

The Body of The People is an original dance opera composed by Jessie Cox, accompanied by Joanna Lynn-Jacobs, Pablo Calogero, Tomoko Ozawa, William Roper, and Linnea Powell. The work explored ideas of identity and autonomy performed by HDD dancers Raymond Ejiofor, Rebecca Lee, Lenin Fernandez, Anthea Young, Genna Moroni, Edgar Aguirre, Jobel Medina, Mercedes Ibarra, Karin Tatsuoka, and Anthea Young.

Students from A Place Called Home and Saint Mary’s Academy also performed original works guided by Heidi Duckler Dance teaching artists.

The honorees for the night were Jewel Delegall (Chief Program Officer at a Place Called Home), Nancy Griffin (Journalist, Author, and Community Volunteer), and David Rousseve (Distinguished Professor of Choreography at UCLA World Arts and Cultures/Dance) whose work has greatly impacted the Los Angeles community.
