Crafted for bowling alleys across the globe, Bowling Blues is a site-adaptive work that integrates live music by multi-instrumentalist Claire Gignac & athletic choreography by Heidi Duckler. This piece explores the vintage atmosphere of bowling alleys against the soundtrack of pins falling & popcorn popping. Bowling Blues premiered at the Darling Bowling Alley in 2013 as part of Quartiers Danses, a unique festival that aims to “democratize contemporary dance” by “offering a diverse program of works from national and international artists in a variety of venues, traditional or unusual.” This engagement was supported by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through USArtists International in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. In 2014, the piece was recreated at the Mission Bowling Club in San Francisco as part of ODC‘s annual fringe-style Walking Distance Dance Festival. Photo Credit: Esmail Nabil.
