On Saturday, September 21, 2024, Heidi Duckler Dance celebrated 39 years of innovative, site-specific dance at Loyola Law School, designed by renown architect, Frank Gehry.
The evening’s event began with the award ceremony, where community leaders received recognition for their work in Los Angeles. Los Angeles World Airports Chief Airports Administrative Officer, Marla Bleavins received the Civic Engagement Award. California Wellness Foundation’s Vice President of Public Affairs, Alex Johnson, was honored with the Human Impact Award, and Therese H. Maynard, Leonard Cohen Chair for Law and Business at LMU Loyola Law School received the inaugural Education & Learning award.
Enhancing the evening’s allure, new works by Madison Olandt, and Alejandro Perez debuted and engaged the audience with their distinct artistic voices and creative approaches to movement. Additionally, guests were led to the dynamic performances by School of Fish, created and choreographed by transdisciplinary artist Shoji Yamasaki, known for his innovative approach to storytelling through dance.
The evening concluded with dinner and dancing on the rooftop of Loyola’s parking five-story parking structure with music by East Los Angeles trio, El Haru Kuroi.
