Cooper Design Space, Los Angeles, CA
Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre invigorated the 11th floor penthouse of the Cooper Design Space at LERATA’s annual art and technology event, Skyline with symbiotic movement. Working alongside architect Filipa Valente’s “Liminoid Garden”, they create a play space that shifts according to real-time behaviors. Two athletic company dancers investigated cycles of circulation and growth using their own human bodies. Adding dynamic motion to the sights and sounds of the penthouse space, they simultaneously responded to Valente’s artificial organisms as well as the other human beings surrounding them. With the stunning visual backdrop of downtown visible through the penthouse’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the environment created by the company and Valente reflected the nature of the area as a unique, ever-changing biosphere.
